Killer Kahlua Brownies

When I saw this recipe in a blog I read...I thought I need to try these. I love baking cookies and brownies and I'm always trying to find those really decadent oh my god this is the best brownie ever recipe. Just a note..nothing in this recipe is remotely healthy.

How bad can the brownies be when this is the star of your recipe?

I must say, when I started with this recipe, I was a little unsure about the batter..it was very different from most things I make and I instantly thought I did something wrong..

Once the dry ingredients went in, it really started to come together

Have I mentioned how much I love my large Batter Bowl from Pampered Chef? Perfect for this recipe and no need to whip out my big Kitchen Aid

The supporting roles in this recipe...some chocolate chips and pecans

Into the batter bowl they went

Fresh out of the oven...

The final product

These were definitely a good brownie. The chocolate chips and nuts really added to this brownie, so I wouldn't omit them. Was it the best brownie I ever made, I have one recipe I like a tiny bit better but this was definitely an above average better than most recipe and I love the Kahlua addition..although it's very subtle and next time I might add more. But, I think these might be a winner to bring to a SuperBowl party next weekend!

Here's the recipe. I made 16 brownies in an 8" pan, if you'd like to use a 9" by 13" pan, just double the recipe. I got this recipe off of http://www.cookiemadness.net/

Killer Kahlua Brownies from Dying for Chocolate
1/3 cup butter, unsalted (divided use)
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons cocoa, unsweetened
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons boiling water and 2 tablespoons Kahlua
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
2/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup coarsely chopped pecans
1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line an 8 inch metal pan with foil. Grease bottom of pan.
Melt the butter and set aside to cool. In mixing bowl, stir together the cocoa and baking soda. Add HALF of the butter, then add boiling water and Kahlua. Stir until well blended. Stir in sugar, beaten egg and remaining butter. Stir in flour and salt followed by the chocolate chips and nuts. Pour chocolate brownie batter into pan. Bake at 350° for 27-30 minutes or until brownies appear firm and begin to pull away from sides of pan. Cool before cutting into squares.

Enjoy!
